Banks in Russia face mass ejection of counterfeit banknotes through ATMs

Date:

The largest manufacturer of ATMs, NCR, has informed banks about the mass ejection of counterfeit 5000-ruble banknotes, Russian newspaper Vedomosti reports, citing reliable sources in the Russian banks.

The counterfeit banknotes have reportedly been slipped in into ATMs equipped with old devices to check banknotes.

The damage caused to the banks is still unknown, but it is supposed that it is estimated at several million of rubles.

Resetting ATMs software program needs time, and therefore, upon the advice of NCR, many banks have decided to temporarily make their cash machines not able to absorb 5,000-ruble banknotes.
