Asia-Plus

Citing Uzbekistan’s Prosecutor-General’s Office, Turon24 news website reports that former State Advisor to the President and chief of the Customs Committee Muidjon Tohiriy has been arrested.

In the interests of the investigation, the Prosecutor-General’s Office has reportedly refrained from giving further details.

Muidjon Tohiriy twice held the position of the Deputy Chairman of the Service of National Security (SNB) of Uzbekistan in 2006–2009 and in 2011-2016.

As deputy chief of the Service for National Security, Tohiriy was in charge of the Presidential Security Service.

He also served as Deputy Chairman of the Security Council/State Advisor to the then President Islam Karimov.

In December 2016, Muidjon Tohiriy was appointed to head the Customs Committee but he was fired on February 12 of this year.
