FT advises its readers to visit Tajikistan

Asia-Plus

Financial Times (FT) has put Tajikistan on its “must-visit” list for 2019.   A panel of travel industry leaders has picked the hottest destinations for this year, from the deserts of the Empty Quarter to the beaches of Belize.

Eight nations, including Cambodia, Faroe Islands, Rwanda, Oman, Eritrea, Tajikistan. Belize and Italy, have been put on the list

Antonia Bolingbroke-Kent of Silkroad Adventures, in particular, says, “Uzbekistan, tipped in the 2017 equivalent of this article, has become increasingly accessible, with a new e-visa system, more flights from Europe to Tashkent, and high-speed rail links from Tashkent on to Samarqand and Bukhara.  Neighboring Tajikistan remains much more off the beaten track, but earlier last year the border was opened between Samarkand and Panjakent, in the north-western corner of Tajikistan.”

“You could be gazing at the glittering Timurid domes of Samarkand in the morning and wandering through a remote Yagnob village in the spectacular Fann Mountains by tea time,” Antonia Bolingbroke-Kent notes.

Recall, President Emomali Rahmon noted in his annual address to both houses of parliament on December 26 that visitor numbers doubled last year, compared to 2017, and pledged to develop the country’s infrastructure to create a conducive environment for tourism.
