Tajikistan has reportedly increased meat production. However, meat prices remain high in the county.
According to the report released by the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA), Tajikistan last year produced more than 262,000 tons of meat in live weight, which was more than 13,000 tons more than in 2017.
The government last year set recommended annual physiological norms of consumption of basic foods per capita and the annual physiological norm of consumption of meat per capita was set at 40.8 kilograms.
According to statistical data from the Customs Service, Tajikistan had imported more than 24,000 tons of meat and meat products over the first eleven months of 2018.
Besides, the number of cattle has risen 1.2 percent over the same eleven-month period, reaching some 2.4 million head.
As January 1, 2019, there were some 6 million sheep and goats in the country.
However, meat prices remain high in the county. Current price for one kilogram of meat at Dushanbe’s bazaars is 40-42 somoni.
