Tajik leader receives Secretary of State to the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of France

President Emomali Rahmon yesterday afternoon met here with visiting Secretary of State to the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of France, Mr. Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne.

According to the Tajik president’s official website, Rahmon and Lemoyn discussed state and prospects of further expansion of cooperation between Tajikistan and France both on a bilateral basis and within the frameworks of partnership with the European Union.  

The meeting reportedly focused on issues related to developing interagency political consultations, providing regional security and stability, border control as well as expanding bilateral economic, educational, scientific and cultural cooperation between Tajikistan and France.  

Rahmon appreciated France’s support for implementation of national and regional investment projects.

Sectors like energy, transportation, agriculture and telecommunications were outlined as areas, which could drive the bilateral trade between Tajikistan and France.   

It was noted that opening of direct air communication between the two countries, organization of art, historical and cultural exhibitions could also promote further expansion of trade and economic cooperation between Tajikistan and France and create favorable conditions for development of tourism.  

The two sides reportedly also discussed a number of regional and international issues being of mutual interest, including joint fight against international terrorism and extremism and support for the process of strengthening security and stability in Afghanistan.

Mr. Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne conveyed to Emomali Rahmon President Macron’s invitation message to pay visit to France.         

Mr. Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne (born September 15, 1977) is a French politician.  He was named Secretary of State to the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs on June 21, 2017.
