More than 200 Kazakh children reportedly exposed to sexual violence in Q1 2019

Asia-Plus

Over the first three months of this year, more than 200 Kazakh children have been exposed to sexual violence and debauchery, according to Kazakhstan Today.

Citing public figure Dina Smailova (Tansari), Kazakhstan Today says 207 Kazakh children have been exposed to sexual violence in January-March this year, which was 63.3 percent more than in the same period last year.

Over the first three months of last year, 49 children in Kazakhstan were reportedly exposed to sexual abuse.

According to data provided by Kazakh rights activists, 84 children were raped and 88 other children went through acts of a sexual nature in January-November last year.

128 other child abuse cases had been registered in Kazakhstan over the same eleven-month period.

Kazakhstan has approved chemical castration as a form of punishment for people jailed on charges of pedophilia.  The law entered into force in April 2016.

Under the law, chemical castration is administered through a course of injections that act on the body over a number of months to reduce sexual urges.

Kazakhstan began to a new punishment (chemical castration) for convicted pedophiles in 2018.

It is to be noted that the way this remedy was adopted in Kazakhstan differs notable from similar initiatives in some western countries, where pedophiles typically volunteer for the treatment instead of having it applied to them as a matter of course.
