Turkey’s president to pay a working visit to Tajikistan

Date:

Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will pay a working visit to Tajikistan, a source in the Tajik government told Asia-Plus Wednesday morning.  He will hold talks with Tajik President Emomali Rahmon.

While in Dushanbe, Turkish leader will attend the fifth summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) that will take place in the Tajik capital on June 14-15.

The Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) is a multi-national forum for enhancing cooperation towards promoting peace, security and stability in Asia.  A number of bilateral meetings are expected to take place on the sidelines of the CICA summit.

Turkey recognized Tajikistan's independence on December 16, 1991 and diplomatic relations between them were established on January 29, 1992.  The Turkish Embassy in Dushanbe was inaugurated on August 4, 1992 and Tajikistan's Embassy in Ankara was opened on October 16, 1995.

Tajik-Turkish relations are based on common historical and cultural ties, which were enriched with the legacy of great thinkers like Mawlana Jalal ad-Din Rumi.  Today, the two countries are determined to further strengthen cooperation in every field.

During the President Emomali Rahmon’s visit to Turkey, a Joint Declaration Regarding the Foundation of Cooperation Council between the Republic of Turkey and the Republic of Tajikistan was established on December 18, 2012 in order to place the relations between the two countries on an institutional ground.

Each year, Turkey ranks among the first five trading partners of Tajikistan.
