Tajik president, ABD vice-president discuss implementation of 16 investment projects

Over the years of cooperation, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a total of some 1.8 billion U.S. dollars in grants, concessional loans, and technical assistance to Tajikistan.

Tajik President Emomali Rahmon yesterday afternoon received ADB Vice-President Mr. Shixin Chen.

In the course of the talks, Rahmon and Chen discussed state an prospects of further expansion of cooperation between Tajikistan and the Asian Development Bank, according to the Tajik president’s official website.   

The two sides reportedly pointed to the necessity of development of entrepreneurship, improvement of investment climate in Tajikistan and expansion of cooperation within the framework of the third subprogram of the Investment Climate Reform Program.  

It was noted during the meeting that over the years of cooperation, the Asian Development Bank has approved a total of some 1.8 billion U.S. dollars in grants, concessional loans, and technical assistance for implementation of important investment projects in Tajikistan.  

Tajik leader and ADB vice-president reportedly also discussed issues related to implementation of 16 investment projects aimed at promoting enhancement of transport, energy, agrarian, health care and educational sectors as well as development of cities in Tajikistan.  

They also pointed to the necessity of establishing cooperation to promote development of the promising areas of the private sector, especially productive entrepreneurship, expansion of regional cooperation, development of transportation and road infrastructure, construction of power transmission lines, etc. 

Rahmon and Chen also discussed expansion of cooperation between Tajikistan and the ADB in priority and strategic sectors of Tajikistan, including the provision of energy independence and food security.  

Tajikistan joined ADB in 1998. To date, ADB has approved a total of some 1.8 billion U.S. dollars in grants, concessional loans, and technical assistance to the country. ADB and Tajikistan’s development partnership has restored and built the country’s new transport and energy infrastructure, supported social development, expanded agricultural production, and improved regional cooperation and trade.
