Tajikistan needs US$400 million for implementation of its new anti-crisis action that was approved by the government on November 30, 2018.  The Tajik authorities hope to receive these funds from partners for development.

A roundtable entitled “Providing Macroeconomic Stability in the Country under the Influence of External Factors” took place in Dushanbe on June 20, 2019.

Speaking at the meeting, Frist Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Zavqi Zavqizoda, in particular noted that approximately 400 million U.S. dollars are needed for implementation of the plan of actions to prevent the impact of possible risks on the country’s economy.

The Tajik authorities hope to receive these funds from partners for development.

According to Zavqizoda, a certain work has been carried out in the country to provide macroeconomic stability, promote efficient financial policy, improve investment climate, develop entrepreneurship and ensure operation of state-run enterprises.

Besides, the authorities are taking measures to decrease the dependence of the national economy and financial system on the one country of migration, Tajik official added.

Consisting of twenty-four items, the Plan of Actions on Coordination of Implementation of the Macroeconomic Policy and Prevention of Impact of Possible Risks on the National Economy was introduced into action on January 1, 2019, replacing the anti-crisis action plan that was adopted by the government in 2015.

One of items of the plan provides for preventing unfounded rise in prices for “socially necessary goods, the liquefied natural gas, gasoline, and railway services.”

Besides, the new anti-crisis action plan includes measures to reduce dependence of the national economy on one destination country for labor migration that provides for diversification of countries receiving Tajik labor migrants.

The new ant-crisis action plan also provides for implementation of an efficient monetary policy, strengthening of control and regulation of banks activities, improvement of infrastructure of payment systems, expansion of cashless payments, etc.

The new anti-crisis action plan also provides for monitoring of targeted and efficient use of funds of investment projects and elimination of problems existing in this area.

Besides, the document includes measures to ensure sustainable activity of state-owned enterprises and troubled banks.

One of the plan’s items provides for improvement of financial and economic situation of large enterprises, particularly Barqi Tojik, Tajik Aluminum Company, Tajik Air and Tajik Railways.
