EBRD President arriving in Tajik capital today to meet with political leadership and businesses

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) President Suma Chakrabarti is arriving in Dushanbe today to meet with the country’s President Emomali Rahmon, government officials, including Ministers of Finance Fayziddin Qahhorzoda and Energy and Water Resources Usmonali Usmonzoda, according to the EBRD Resident Office in Dushanbe.

President Chakrabarti will also see representatives of small and medium-sized enterprises and participate in a public event.

This is the second visit of the President Suma Chakrabarti to Tajikistan.  The first visit took place in 2014. 

In Tajikistan the EBRD is focused on stabilizing and rebuilding trust in the banking sector, developing private enterprises and agribusiness, improving the availability, reliability and quality of municipal services and improving the quality of energy supply, regulation and energy efficiency

To date, the EBRD has reportedly invested almost €673 million (US$ 755 million) through 127 projects in various sectors of Tajikistan’s economy.
