A six-year-old Osiya Sherzod, who sustained serious burns after she was purposely set on fire, got the first surgery and it was successful. German Professor Edgar Biemer assesses her health condition as satisfactory.
“Osiya Sherzod, who has burns on 65 percent of her body surface area, had the first surgery and it was successful,” Tohir Zubaidov, a physician with the Dushanbe Burn Center, told Asia-Plus in an interview.
According to him, they have done the surgery together with German Professor Edgar Biemer, who arrived in Dushanbe to help Osiya.
Professor Biemer, who introduced plastic surgery in Tajikistan in 1998, has reportedly assessed Osiya’s health condition as satisfactory. He has brought all necessary medicine for treatment of the girl with him from Berlin.
Recall, this screaming incident occurred in Dushanbe’s Sino district in broad white on June 19. The three teens purposely set the 6-year-old Osiya Sherzod on fire. Osiya is currently undergoing treatment at the Dushanbe Burn Center.
Dushanbe-based weekly Farazh reported on June 21 that three teenagers tied a six-year-old girl who was playing with her friends near her house to a grid fence and set her on fire.
The Interior Ministry says three teens from the Choryakkoron jamoat of the Roudaki district were reportedly detained on suspicion of committing this crime. However, they have been released later. An investigation is under way.
President Emomali Rahmon expressed concern about this incident and ordered the Minister of Health and Social Protection Nasim Olimzoda to take treatment of Osiya Sherzod under his own control.
Edgar Biemer (born October 31, 1940), after his education as a specialist in plastic surgery, began to shift his primary focus of interest to microsurgery. In 1975, he founded the first replantation center in Germany – the second in Europe – in the university hospital Klinikum rechts der Isar. For more than 40 years, Edgar Biemer developed innovative operative techniques in plastic surgery there. In 1998 Professor Biemer introduced plastic surgery to Tajikistan. Together with Dr. Wolfgang Duspiva, he is the author of the first German textbook for reconstructive microsurgery, as well as a leading member of the most important international scientific societies for plastic, reconstructive and cosmetic surgery. In 2008, together with colleagues at the university hospital Klinikum rechts der Isar, he headed a team of 40 professionals that was successful in a pioneering achievement: the world’s first transplantation of two complete arms. In 2012, Edgar Biemer was awarded the Dieffenbach Medal, the highest honor that the German Society of Plastic, Reconstructive and Cosmetic Surgeons (Deutsche Gesellschaft der Plastischen, Rekonstruktiven und Ästhetischen Chirurgen) can confer on German national and international candidates.
