Over the first six months of this year, Tajikistan has concluded five investment projects, according to the State Committee on Investment and State-owned Property Management (GosKomInvest).
Three other investment projects are still at the stage of consideration, an official source at GosKomInvest told Asia-Plus in an interview.
According to him, the mentioned projects provide for construction of seven new industrial enterprises.
In all, 200 million U.S. dollars will be spent on implementation of these projects, the source said.
He further noted that GosKomInvest was currently carrying out work on attracting 100 million in the coming years for investing in the country’s economy.
According to data of GosKomInvest, Tajikistan’s investment portfolio now includes 70 projects totaling 31.8 billion somoni (equivalent to 3.3 billion U.S. dollars).
The main investing financial institutions are the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the Export–Import Bank of China (Chexim – China Exim Bank), the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), etc.
Despite unsettled debts, Tajikistan intends to borrow another some 777 million U.S. dollars within the next three years under the national foreign-borrowing program: 261.8 million USD in 2019; 255.9 million USD in 2020; and 258.6 million USD in 2021.
