The Tajik authorities are ready to arrange arrival of mother of Jay Austin, of one of four foreign cyclists killed in a terrorist attack in Danghara district last year, in Tajikistan.
Tajik Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Muhriddin remarked this at a meeting with journalists in Dushanbe on August 2.
Jea Austin, the mother of Jay Austin, in January this year applied to the Tajik government asking for permission to visit the place of death of her son.
She also seeks financial compensation from Tajikistan, the minister told reporters.
“We have invited her to visit Tajikistan and said that all expenses related to her stay in the country will be paid by the government, but she has refused pleading for health condition,” Muhriddin noted.
According to him, the clear understanding and the procedure of payment of compensation to relatives of persons killed in terrorist attacks is not written in Tajikistan’s legislation. .
“The issue of payment of financial compensation to Mrs. Jea Austin can be solved only by the country’s judicial authorities,” Tajik foreign minister said.
Jea Austin has told us about how bright and unusual was life of Jay Austin, about his unfulfilled dreams and hopes, his wisdom in her heartfelt and frank letters.
The 29-year-old Jay Austin was among a group of four cyclists killed on July 29 when attackers plowed into their group on a road and then stabbed some of them. The other three killed were Austin's girlfriend, Loren Geoghegan, 29, who was also an American national, a Dutchman, and a Swiss man.
Two other foreign cyclists survived the attack, which occurred in Danghara district of Khatlon province about 150 kilometers south of Dushanbe.
Four suspects in the attack were killed by Tajik security forces. The fifth one, Husein Abdusamadov, was found guilty of murder in November 2018 and sentenced to life in prison.
