In 2020, social spending are expected to account for 43.2 percent of budget allocations, an official source at one of economic cluster ministries told Asia-Plus in an interview.
“The budget for 2020 earmarks 11.310 billion somoni for social sector, which is 726 million somoni more than this year,” the source said.
In 2021, the budget reportedly projects expenditure of 12.250 million somoni in the social sector and in 2022 this figure will reach 13.5 billion somoni.
The draft law on the national budget for 2020 has been submitted for consideration to the government and the bill is expected to be sent for consideration to the lower chamber (Majlisi Namoyandagon) of parliament (Majlisi Oli) before the end of this month, the source added.
This year, social spending reportedly accounted for nearly 44 percent (some 10.4 billion somoni) of budget allocations.
The 2019 national budget was projected to stand at more than 23.774 billion somoni, with some 4.4 billion somoni earmarked for public education and more than 1.17 billion somoni earmarked for health care.
This year’s budget projected expenditure of some 3.7 billion somoni in the social insurance and social protection and expenditure of 740 million somoni in the culture sector.
The 2019 budget earmarked more than 4.1 billion somoni for the energy sector, 915 million somoni for agrarian sector, fishery and hunting and 962 million somoni for environmental protection, forestry as well as housing and communal services.
This year, 150 million somoni were expected to be spent for on the construction sector and more than 1.7 billion somoni were expected to be sent on the transportation-communication system.
Expenditures on public management personnel this year were projected to stand at more than 1.2 billion somoni.
Other expenditures were projected to amount to some 2.6 billion somoni in 2019.
The 2019 budget projected the budget deficit to amount to 0.5 percent of the country’s gross domestic product (GDP).
