This year, the southern city of Levakant (formerly Sarband) in Khatlon province is the first in Tajikistan to full its cotton target, which has been determined at 2,300 tons, according to the Khatlon regional administration press center.
A meeting was held in Bokhtar, the capital of Khatlon province yesterday morning to review the results of a 15-day competition between the cotton-growers of the province.
Speaking at the meeting, Khatlon governor Qurbon Hakimzoda noted that cotton growers from Levakant were the first this year to fulfill their cotton target. They reportedly yielded 2,313 tons of raw cotton from 1,010 hectares (average cotton yields were 2.39 tons/ha).
Levakant cotton growers are followed by cotton growers from Bokhtar and cotton-growers from Danghara are in the third place, the Khatlon regional administration press center said..
Cotton-growers of Khatlon province plan to yield more than 275,000 tons of raw cotton this year.
Meanwhile, the country’s cotton growers are taking real measures to gather cotton on time and fulfill this year’s national target, which has been determined at 400,000 tons of raw cotton.
This year, Tajik farmers have planted cotton on an area of 185,670 hectares, which is 1,700 hectares more than last year, according to the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA).
Last year, Tajik cotton-grower yielded more than 300,000 tons of raw cotton, which was 22.3 percent fewer than in 2017.
