A meeting of the National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT) to review the results of the work carried out over the past nine months was held on October 15, according to the NBT press center.
Speaking at the meeting, Tajik central bank head Jamshed Nourmahmadzoda noted that loan interest rates have decreased markedly over the report period.
The weighted average interest rate on loans provided in the national currency, the somoni, over the first nine months of this year has decreased by 6.4 percent to 22.1 percent, Nourmahmadzoda said.
Over the same nine-month period, the weighted average interest rate on loans provided in foreign currency has reportedly decreased by 1.3 percent to 15.5 percent.
Over the report period, productive enterprises and entrepreneurs have received some 2.7 billion somoni in loans (equivalent to 280 million U.S. dollars), which was 980 million somoni or 58 percent more than in the same period last year.
In January-September this year, local banks have also provided 27.2 million somoni in loans to support development of folk crafts and 8.1 million somoni in loans to support development of the tourism industry in the country, financial regulator head said.
