How much is coal for the people?

Date:

The coal prices have risen sharply in Tajikistan and the Ministry of Industry and New Technologies (MoINT) blames speculators and second-hand dealers for this.

The ministry calls on local authorities to deal with unreasonable coal price hikes.

“Separate persons, using the onset of cold weather, have unfoundedly raised fuel prices,” Bahriddin Abdurahimzoda, the head of the MoINT Coal Industry Department, told Asia-Plus in an interview.

Meanwhile, according to entrepreneurs, the price for one ton of coal in regions fluctuates from 800 to 1,200 somoni (including transportation costs).

Current prices for a 25-kilogram sack of coal are 28.00 somoni in Panjakent, 23.00 somoni in Tursunzoda, and 25.00 somoni in Bokhtar.

Prices for one kilogram of coal imported from Kyrgyzstan have also been raised by 30-50 dirams.  Current prices for one kilogram of Kyrgyz coal are 1.40 somoni in Khujand, 1.80 somoni in Tursunzoda and Bokhtar, and 2.00 somoni in Kulob and Rasht.
