Over the first eleven months of this year, a total volume of the food industry production in Tajikistan has amounted to around 5.billion somoni, which is 13.5 percent more than in the same period last year, according to the Ministry of Industry and New Technologies (MoINT).
“The share of food products in a total volume of industrial goods produced in the country over the repot period was 20.1 percent and their share in a total volume of products manufactured in January-November by processing industry was nearly 35 percent,” an official source at a MoINT told Asia-Plus in an interview.
According to him, increase in the food industry production has resulted from increase in production of confectioner's goods (27.3 percent increase), edible salt (24.8 percent increase), meat (21.3 percent increase), soft drinks (20.8 percent increase), vegetable oil (16.6 percent increase) dried fruits (16 percent increase), canned fruits and vegetables (13 percent increase), dairy products (4.3 percent increase), bread and baker products (1.2 percent increase).
Despite this, prices for products of the food industry have risen considerably over the same eleven-month period.
According to data from the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan, prices for products of the food industry have increased by 10.1 percent over the first eleven months of this year.
The increase in prices for products of the food industry has reportedly been caused by a 22.6 percent rise in prices for meats, bread products – 17.5 percent, vegetables – 12.7 percent, milk and dairy products – 3.3 percent, and eggs – 1.9 percent.
