Coronavirus: Tajikistan evacuates its 54 nationals from Wuhan

Date:

Tajik nationals evacuated from the Chinese city of Wuhan, which is at the center of the coronavirus crisis, landed at the Ayni airfield in the Hisor district today morning at 7:00 am, Asia-Plus has learned from the Tajik MFA information department.

They were reportedly carried from Wuhan to Tajikistan by plane of Tajikistan’s privately owned air carrier Somon Air.

54 Tajik nationals, including students, as well members of the plane crew and medical workers and employees of the Emergencies Committee, totaling 63 people, have been taken to the Kharangon sanatorium in the Varzob district, 15 kilometers from Dushanbe, where they will be isolated for 14 days, an official source within the Emergencies Committee told Asia-Plus in an interview.

Meanwhile, CNN, citing Chinese authorities, says the Wuhan coronavirus has killed more than 1,000 people since the outbreak began. More than 40,000 have been infected.

Since its outbreak in December, the Wuhan coronavirus has killed more people than the severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) outbreak, which claimed 774 victims globally from November 2002 to July 2003.

Meanwhile, 65 newly confirmed coronavirus cases were reported on the Diamond Princess ship docked in Japan, bringing the total number on board to 135.
