Japan’s government completes GGP project in healthcare sector in Dushanbe

On Monday February 10, Mr. Takayuki Miyashita, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Tajikistan, attended a handover ceremony to commemorate the successful completion of “The Project for Improvement of Medical Equipment of City Medical Center in Dushanbe City,” according to Japan’s Embassy in Dushanbe.

The project was implemented in the framework of Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP).

The Government of Japan reportedly provided the total grant amount of 89,222 USD to the City Medical Center named after Karim Akhmedov for procurement of new medical equipment.

Prior to the implementation of the project, the City Medical Center named after Karim Akhmedov was in need of necessary equipment for the obstetrics department to care for new born babies.  With the successful project completion, the necessary medical equipment is now installed in the department including ventilator, medical monitor, incubator, neonatal phototherapy lamp, baby bed, etc. and the conditions of the medical institution has been improved.

During the ceremony, Ambassador Miyashita stated that Japan’s GGP projects have been able to make a true difference by providing development assistance in the improvement of different spheres, including infrastructure, education, agriculture, health and social sectors. He also added that the projects also play a vital role in strengthening bilateral partnership between the Republic of Tajikistan and Japan.

Along with the staff of the City Medical Center named after Karim Akhmedov Karim and representatives of local government of Dushanbe City, the handover ceremony was also attended by Mr. Kholmirzo Davlatov, Deputy Head of the Health Committee in Dushanbe City, Mr. Khurshed Rustamov, Head of the City Medical Center named after Karim Akhmedov, Mr. Akram Mahmadkholzod, Deputy Head of the City Medical Center named after Karim Akhmedov, and Mrs. Roziya Abdusamadova, Deputy Head of the City Medical Center named after Karim Akhmedov.

The attendees in turn extended their words of gratitude to the Government and people of Japan for their support.

Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP) is provided to local governments, educational/ medical institutions and International NGOs in addressing development needs in the areas such as education, health, water supply and the environment.  GGP supports projects in the human security sectors at the grassroots level.  As of today, GGP has supported 411 projects in the Republic of Tajikistan, for which more than US$ 33.2 million has been provided since 1996.
