The authorities introduced a ban on the export of agricultural products from April 25

The Republican Headquarters for Coronavirus Prevention, led by Tajik Prime Minister Kohir Rasulzoda, has decided to temporarily suspend the export of certain types of food products.

A temporary ban was imposed in particular on the export of all types of cereals, legumes, flour and wheat, rice, eggs, potatoes and all kinds of meat.

The ban is valid from April 25 this year until an indefinite period.

We calculated how much currency the republic might lose due to the introduction of this ban.

According to official statistics, last year products of plant origin (fruits and vegetables, melons, tea, rice, wheat and other grain crops) were delivered abroad in the amount of about $ 27 million, which is 2.3% of the total export of the republic.

In addition, ready-made food products were exported (sausages and other meat products, sugar and confectionery, bread and bakery products, juices, alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, and others) in the amount of almost $ 5.1 million, whose share in the export is 0.4 %.

Moreover, livestock products (meat, milk and dairy products, eggs and others) were exported abroad for the amount of $ 999 thousand (0.1% of exports).

Fats and oils were also exported in the amount of $ 129 thousand (0.01% of total exports).

Thus, the annual volume of export of food products from Tajikistan amounted to a little more than $ 33 million. And this makes up only 2.8% of the republic’s export structure.
