Tajik president asked to declare ‘loan recesses in the country

Date:

Citizens have applied to President Emomali Rahmon through social networking media asking him to declare “loan recesses” in the country.

They, in particular, note that every family in Tajikistan has suffered “great losses and hardships” following the coronavirus outbreak “and approximately each of us is a lender of this or that bank.”

“The agreements have the point indicating force majeure, but the banks refuse to recognize the coronavirus pandemic as force majeure,” the application says.

The citizens ask the president to assist in this difficult situation.

Recall, the National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT) in early May developed the plan of actions to mitigate the effects of COVID-19 outbreak on the national economy as well as the country’s financial and insurance sectors.

“For the purpose of protecting rights of consumers, preventing increase in the number of non-performing loans and keeping solvency, the NBT has ordered lending agencies to develop the plan of adequate actions,” says the NBT press center.

Tajik central bank, in particular, notes that taking into account financial situation of their customers the lending agencies will consider restructuring of loans of some their customers being in a difficult financial situation and consider the possibility of providing preferential postponement to the customers in payment of loans.
