One person was killed and three others injured on June 14 as a car fell over a precipice into a river in the Ayni district of Sughd province, according to the Emergencies Committee under the Government of Tajikistan.

“The accident took place near the village of Pete in the Ayni district,” Ms. Umeda Yusufi, a spokeswoman of the Emergencies Committee, told Asia-Plus in an interview.

According to her, the rapid response team of the emergency management agency in the Zarafshon area participated in the rescue operation.

“Using hydraulic rescue tools, they cut the car doors and opened its roof to get people off the car.  Unfortunately, one of passengers was killed while the driver and two other passengers sustained serious injuries and were taken to the central district hospital in the administrative center of the Ayni district,” Yusufi said.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
