Nine WHO experts and a new group of Polish healthcare workers have arrived in Tajikistan. As the previous group, they will assist Tajik colleges with combating the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
Recall the first group of representatives of the Polish Emergency Medical Team (EMT) consisting of 16 experts arrived in Tajikistan, along with three WHO experts on June 6. They have travelled to different regions of the country to support medical staff in healthcare institutions. On June 9, a first group left for the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO).
On June 14, they met with the First Deputy Minister of Health and Social Protection of the Population of Tajikistan, Ms. Saida Umarzoda, to report on the results of work carried out by them in a week.
As it had been reported earlier, the second mission of the World Health Organization (WHO) will be sent to Tajikistan in the near future. Its members will include representative of Rospotrebnadzor (Russia’s Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing).
In the frames of the Global Outbreak Alert and Response Network (GOARN), Rospotrebnadzor reportedly participates in formation of rapid response teams to provide assistance to the most hit countries.
Therefore, specialists of Rospotrebnadzor will be sent again to Tajikistan for work as part of an international expert group being formed by WHO.
The experts will assist Tajik specialists help in carrying out lab diagnostics, epidemiological supervision and conducting research of the new coronavirus.
GOARN is a network composed of numerous technical and public health institutions, laboratories, NGOs, and other organizations that work to observe and respond to threatening epidemics. GOARN works closely with and under the World Health Organization (WHO), which is one of its most notable partners. Its goals are to: examine and study diseases, evaluate the risks that certain diseases pose, and improve international capability to deal with diseases.
