Tajikistan’s external trade turnover has amounted to 1.871.9 billion U.S. dollars over the first five months of this year, which is 109.3 percent of the January-May 2019 level or 158.9 million U.S. dollars more, according to the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan.
In January-May this year, the trade balance was negative and amounted to 675.1 million U.S. dollars.
Exports of goods in January-May have reportedly amounted to 598.4 million U.S. dollars, which was 45.8 percent or 187.9 million U.S. dollars more than in the same period last year.
Precious and semiprecious items reportedly accounted for 50.2 percent of Tajikistan’s exports over the report period. Non precious metals and cotton fiber accounted for 14.2 and 7.0 percent of Tajikistan’s exports, respectively
Imports of goods into the country over the same five-month period have amounted to 1.273.5 billion U.S. dollars, which was 2.2 percent or 29 million U.S. dollars more than in January-May last year.
Oil products accounted for 9.5 percent of the country’s imports. Wheat flour reportedly accounted for 0.7 percent of imports and wheat accounted for 7.7 percent of imports.
In January-May, Tajikistan reportedly had trade relations with 108 countries of the world, including ten CIS nations.
Over the first five months of this year, Tajikistan’s major trading partners of Tajikistan’s export sales were; Switzerland — 50.8 percent of overall Tajikistan’s exports; Turkey – 15.4 percent; Kazakhstan – 12.8 percent; Uzbekistan – 3.7 percent; Afghanistan – 4.5 percent; China – 2.6 percent; Russia – 2.5 percent; Belgium – 1.7 percent; etc.
Over the same five-month period, the major trading partners of Tajikistan’s imports were: Russia – 31.9 percent of total Tajikistan’s imports; Kazakhstan – 24.7 percent; China – 13.7 percent; Uzbekistan – 7.4 percent; Turkey – 3.8 percent; Germany – 2.5 percent; the United States and South Korea – 1.6 percent each; Iran – 1.3 percent; Kyrgyzstan – 1.0 percent; etc.
