More water will be taken from Tajik Qairoqqum water reservoir to irrigate lands in three Uzbek regions

Asia-Plus

Additional water will be taken from the water reservoir (Bahri Tojik) powering the Qairoqqum hydropower plant in the Tajik northern province of Sughd to irrigate agricultural fields in Uzbekistan’s Tashkent Syrdarya and Jizakh oblasts.

For this, various pumps and other material and technical resources will be delivered to Tajikistan, the press center of Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Water Resource says.

Such a decision was reportedly made by the Uzbek Cabinet on July 18 under conditions of this year’s deficit of water for irrigation of agricultural crops in the mentioned regions.

To organize additional water intake in Tajikistan,  five pumping units with capacity of 500 horsepower each, twenty submersible, centrifugal, multi-section pump and some other equipment will be delivered to Tajikistan.
