16 residents of Sughd province died with COVID-19, says Sughd regional health official

According to official data from the Sughd Health Directorate, 16 residents of the Sughd province have died with the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) since the first case of COVID-19 was reported in Tajikistan on April 30.

In a report released at a news conference in Khujand, the head of the Sughd Health Directorate, Farrukh Maqsoudzoda, revealed on July 21 that 1,938 confirmed cases of COVID-19 have been reported in the province as of the night of July 20.

According to him, 1,891 COVID-19 patients have reportedly recovered as of July 20 and 16 COVID-19 patients died.  

Currently, 31 people are undergoing medical treatment for COVID-19 in local hospitals, Maqsoudzoda added.  

Recall, the COVID-19 virus was confirmed to have spread to Tajikistan when its index cases, in Dushanbe and Khujand, were confirmed on April 30, 2020.
