In Tajikistan, wage debts reportedly exceed 67.3 million somoni

Date:

In Tajikistan, wage debt have risen 20 million in six months to June 30, reaching more than 67.3 million somoni.  The Ministry of Labor has chosen not to name the largest wage debtors.

Speaking to reporters in Dushanbe, the Minister of Labor, Migration and Employment, Ms. Gulrou Jabborzoda, noted yesterday that the wage payment issue has been under constant control of the ministry and its subdivisions.

Over the first six months of this year, disciplinary and administrative action was imposed upon heads of 38 organizations and enterprises and they were fined a total of 49,176 somoni, the minister noted.

“Over the same six-month period, more than 3.5 million somoni of wage debts have been reimbursed,” Jabborzoda noted.

For his part, the head of the State Supervisory Service in Labor, Migration and Employment of the Population, Doustmurod Murodzoda, told reporters that more than 18,000 workers in various industries have received their wages in time, and only 131 of them have lodged complaints with the State Supervisory Service in Labor, Migration and Employment of the Population.

“Many workers fear losing their jobs, and therefore, few people contact us,” said Murodzoda.  “We always take measures to eliminate these deficiencies.”

However, senior representatives of the ministry have refrained from naming the largest wage debtors.

According to data from the Ministry of Labor, Migration and Employment, current average monthly wage in Tajikistan rose 2.5 percent in a year to June 30, reaching 1,368.9 somoni.

In Tajikistan, the highest average monthly wage was reported in Dushanbe – 2,045.9 somoni.  Dushanbe is followed by the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO) – 1,239.4 somoni, Sughd province – 1,221.1 somoni, districts subordinate to the center – 1,149.7 somoni, and Khatlon province – 1,045.5 somoni.

“However, an average real monthly wage of each employee has decline 3.9 percent over the report period,” the minister noted.
