Tajik embassy demands explanations from FSB over murder of Odil Qayumov, says Radio Ozodi

The Tajik Embassy in Moscow has demanded that the Russian authorities clarify circumstances of the murder of suspected terrorist who had documents in the name of a 19-year-old Tajik citizen Odil Qayumov, Radio Ozodi reported on Tuesday, citing a source within the Tajik Embassy in Moscow.  No answer yet.

On July 27, Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) reported prevention of a terrorist attack in a place of mass gatherings in Moscow.

"The FSB, jointly with the Interior Ministry and the Investigative Committee, has thwarted activities of a member of a terrorist organization, who planned to conduct a terror attack in a place of mass gatherings in Moscow," the FSB wrote in a press release.

The FSB said that the unidentified man opened fire on officers attempting to detain him in the city of Khimki near Moscow and was killed in the ensuing firefight.

The agency added that the suspect was in possession of a Kalashnikov assault rifle with three full magazines and three fragmentation grenades, two of the F1 and one of the RGD type.

“During searches in an apartment that the criminal had been renting in Moscow, material evidence was found proving that the eliminated bandit had links to emissaries of an international terrorist organization in Syria and that he was preparing to stage a mass execution,” the FSB said, adding they were searching for possible accomplices of the man.

Later, the agency said that the alleged terrorist had documents in the name of the 19-year-old citizen of Tajikistan Odil Qayumov, according to Radio Ozodi.

Meanwhile, human rights activist Bahrom Hamroyev considers that the killing of “the alleged terrorist” is clumsy attempt to divert public attention from ongoing acts of protests in Russia, in particular in Khabarovsk, Radio Ozodi says.
