Among the CIS member nations the highest growth in prices and rates reported in Tajikistan and Uzbekistan

The CIS Committee for Statistics notes that over the first six months of this year, the highest growth in prices and rates among the CIS member nations has been reported in Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.

In Uzbekistan, inflation in consumer sector over the reporting period has stood at 4.6 percent, and in Tajikistan, inflation for the same six-month period has stood at 4.3 percent.  

Over the reporting period, inflation in Kazakhstan stood at 4.2 percent, Belarus – 3.4 percent, Kyrgyzstan – 3.0 percent, Russia – 2.6 percent, Ukraine – 2.0 percent, Azerbaijan – 1.5 percent, Moldova – 1.1 percent, and Armenia – 1.0 percent. 

The Committee did not provide data on Turkmenistan.  

According to data provided by the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan, the cost of products of the food industry in January-June this year reportedly increased by 7.5 percent.

The increase in cost of products of the food industry was reportedly caused by a 45.4 percent increase in prices for potatoes, 32.2 percent rise in prices for buckwheat, noodles – 22.7 percent, wheat flour – 17.7, and baked goods – 13.5 percent.       

Non-foodstuffs have reportedly risen in cost 0.6 percent over the same six-month period with the prices increasing most significantly for liquefied natural gas (LNG) – 13.8 percent.

Prices and rates for services rendered to the population reportedly have also increased by 0.6 percent over the first six months of this year.  Prices for air ticket have reportedly increased most significantly over the reporting period – 30 percent.

Recall, inflation last year stood in Tajikistan at 8.0 percent.       

This year, the government plans to curb inflation rate at 7.0 percent.
