Next meeting of the Tajik-Uzbek economic commission to be held in Dushanbe in late September

Co-chaired by Tajik Prime Minister Qohir Rasoulzoda and his Uzbek counterpart Abdulla Aripov, the next meeting of the Tajik-Uzbek commission for economic and trade cooperation is expected to take place in Dushanbe from September 28-29, a source within the Tajik government told Asia-Plus in an interview.  

According to him, the two sides will discuss the mutual opening of their borders to each other’s citizens and resumption of air flights between Tajik and Uzbek capitals, which were suspended in mid-March due to the coronavirus crisis. 

The delegations reportedly intend to discuss issues related to increasing the two-way trade between the two countries, developing and implementing perspective investment projects, expanding transportation cooperation and cooperation between the regions of Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.  

The issues of the supply of electric power from Tajikistan to Uzbekistan and Uzbek natural gas deliveries to Tajikistan and prices for them for 2021 are expected to be coordinated at this meeting, the source said.  

Recall, Tajikistan last year supplied 1.425.1 billion kWh of electricity to Uzbekistan at the rate of 2 cents per one kWh.

In 2019, Uzbekistan supplied 17.7 million USD worth of 140 million cubic meters of natural gas to Tajikistan.
