Emomali Rahmon expected to swear in for his fifth term in office as Tajikistan’s president on October 30.

Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament) Speaker Mahmadtoir Zokirzoda yesterday signed a decision on convocation of the next meeting of both houses of parliament on October 30.

The inauguration of Emomali Rahmon as President of the Republic of Tajikistan will take place on this day, an official source within the Majlisi Namoyandagon told Asia-Plus in an interview.

The inauguration will mark commencement of the fifth term of Emomali Rahmon as President.

Emomali Rahmon will swear in for his fifth term in office as Tajikistan’s president at the Kohi Somon.

A military parade will be held in Dushanbe on the occasion of the 2020 presidential inauguration.  Servicemen of the Dushanbe garrison will march on October 30 after a ceremonial event marking the commencement of a new seven-year term of a president of Tajikistan.

Rahmon was reelected on October 11 with 90.92 percent of the vote.  The victory gave him a new seven-year term in office until at least 2027.

Rahmon ran against four largely loyal candidates.
