Coronavirus crisis has affected foreign trade turnovers of Central Asia’s nations, except Tajikistan, which has managed to increase its foreign trade turnover due to significant increase in export of precious and semi-precious stones and metals. In January-September this year, the export of precious and semi-precious stones and metals from Tajikistan has increased 5.5 times compared to the same period last year. .
Uzbekistan
Over the first nine months of this year, Uzbekistan’s foreign trade turnover has amounted to some 27.5 billion U.S. dollars, which was US$3,7 billion fewer than in the same period last year.
Exports of goods have reportedly amounted to US$12.4 billion, which was 8.0 percent fewer than in January-September last year. Imports of goods into Uzbekistan over the same nine-month period have amounted to US$15 billion, which was 16.5 percent fewer than in January-September last year.
Kyrgyzstan
Kyrgyzstan’s external trade turnover in January-August has amounted to some 3.5 billion U.S. dollars, which was 22.1 percent fewer than in the same period last year.
Meanwhile, exports of goods have risen 3.5 percent over the reporting period, while imports of goods into the country have dropped 31.6 percent over the same nine-month period.
Kazakhstan
Over the first eight months of this year, Kazakhstan’s external trade turnover has amounted to 55.6 billion U.S. dollars, which was 12 percent fewer than in the same period last year.
Exports of goods have amounted to US$31.9 billion, which was 15.7 percent fewer than in January-August last year. Imports of goods into Kazakhstan over the same eight-month period have amounted to US$15 billion, which was 16.5 percent fewer than in January-August last year.
Tajikistan
Tajikistan’s external trade turnover has risen 8.3 percent over the first nine months of this year, reaching more than 3.4 billion U.S. dollars, according to the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan
Exports of goods in January-September have reportedly amounted to about 1.2 billion U.S. dollars, which was 54.8 percent or 420 million U.S. dollars more than in the same period last year. In January-September this year, the export of precious and semi-precious stones and metals from Tajikistan has reportedly increased 5.5 times compared to the same period last year.
In January-September, Tajikistan reportedly exported US$689 million worth of this commodity group, which is 58 percent of the overall volume of the country’s exports over the reporting period.
Imports of goods into the country over the same nine-month period have amounted to more than 2.2 billion U.S. dollars, which was 6.6 percent fewer than in January-September last year.
