Asia-Plus

The number of the officially confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) cases in Tajikistan has exceeded 11,000.

According to the data from the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Population (MoHSPP), 77 new officially confirmed cases of COVID-19 were reported in Tajikistan over the past weekends (Saturday and Sunday), bringing a total number of the officially confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the country to 11,054 as of the morning of November 2.

The number of coronavirus-linked deaths remains the same in the country – 82, a MoHSPP says.

101 COVID-19 patients were reportedly discharged after recovery over the past weekends.  In all, 10,283 coronavirus patients have reportedly recovered in the country as of the morning of November 2.

The COVID-19 pandemic in Tajikistan is part of the worldwide pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2).  The virus was confirmed to have spread to Tajikistan when its index cases, in Dushanbe and Khujand, were confirmed on April 30, 2020.

The coronavirus COVID-19 is affecting 216 countries and territories around the world.

According to COVID-19 data provided by Worldometer, coronavirus cases around the globe have been reported at 46,823,515 since China reported its first cases to the World Health Organization (WHO) in December last year.  Of them, 33,756,847 have recovered and 1,205,321 have died.

Bloomberg reported on November 1 that countries across Europe are tightening restrictions to slow the outbreak, with Belgium set to enter lockdown overnight.  German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas reportedly said the country won’t close its borders even if the virus numbers get worse. Geneva is set to go under partial lockdown.
