Asia-Plus

An exhibition of works by a 15-year-old painter living with HIV has been held in the northern province of Sughd.

Organized by Tajikistan’s Red Crescent Society under support from International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and Aidsfonds, the exhibition was held on December 7 in Khujand, the capital of Sughd province, and on December 8 in Buston, the administrative center of Masthoh district.

13 works have been put on display at the exhibition; seven of them were already purchased during the exhibition that was held in Dushanbe on December 4.  One more work has been purchased during the exhibition in Khujand.

All proceeds from the sale of paintings will go to supportive therapy, which the boy has to take for life.

Tajikistan’s Red Crescent Society has been supporting the young painter over the past three years.  In March this, representatives of Tajikistan’s Red Crescent Society have presented him with canvases and professional paints.

As of October 1, 2020, 12,876 officially confirmed HIV sufferers have been reported in Tajikistan.  Out of this total, 8,228 are men, 4,648 are women, and 1,070 are children under the age of 18.

Each year, the world commemorates World AIDS Day on December 1. People around the world unite to show support for people living with HIV and to remember those who have died from AIDS-related illnesses.  Each World AIDS Day focuses on a specific theme, which this year is “Ending the HIV/AIDS Epidemic: Resilience and Impact.”
