11 Swiss made lung ventilators worth 287,500 euro were procured under the special Germany’s 1 million Euro grant financing extended via KFW in March 2020 under German-Tajik bilateral development cooperation.
According to KfW Office ushanbe, a medical equipment hand-over ceremony took place with participation of German Embassy representative – Mr. Ralf Maureder and the First Deputy Minister of Health and Social Protection of the Population – Mr. Ghafour Muhsinzoda as well as representative of KfW office Dushanbe – Ms. Farzona Noyobshoyeva.
This is part of the funding support in amount of 1 million Euro made available by Germany’s Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development via German Development Bank – KfW – to Government of Tajikistan to fight against COVID19 pandemic.
The new ventilators, UV lamps and oxygen concentrators in accordance with the proposed list by the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Population of the Republic of Tajikistan and in agreement with the German Development Bank will be distributed as follows:

Once the equipment has been installed at the chosen hospitals, training will be conducted on their maintenance and their effective use in the treatment of COVID19 cases and other clinical conditions.
With the provision of this financial support, spare parts and consumables were purchased to restore functionality of 120 Hamilton and 60 Draeger ventilators throughout Tajikistan. Additionally, a large oxygen station in Danghara transferring oxygen to 5 plants in nearby district hospitals in Khatlon, and an oxygen generating station in Khujand have been repaired.
As a result of the extensive repair works, 180 intensive care beds equipped with mechanical ventilation devices have been organized in 23 different hospitals, both in the capital and in the districts to conduct care for critically ill patients with COVID-19. Clinical and specialized hospitals that received the in-kind assistance from the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany will work as usual after the pandemic, providing medical care to the population.
Previously, on July 28 under this funding, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) worth 319 925,00 Euro, consisting of 16 different items and including disposable individual protective accessories, disinfectants, contactless thermometers, safety boxes and etc. was handed over to the Dushanbe Infectious Diseases Hospital.
KfW together with the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Population has been implementing Health sector programs of the Financial Cooperation of Germany with Tajikistan since 2003 in the fields of tuberculosis control, maternal and child health and emergency medicine, treatment and prevention of poliomyelitis. The total amount of funds committed by Germany since 2003 for health sector programs under the Financial Cooperation comprises of 93.4 million Euros.
