An employee of the Dushanbe administration has been detained on suspicion of a large-scale fraud
According to press center of the Agency for State Financial Control and Combating Corruption, Behrouz Mukhtorov, a chef specialist at the Dushanbe Directorate on Investment and State-owned Property Management, has taken a total of 249,000 somonis from two residents of Dushanbe promising to help them privatize two municipal apartments. Mukhtorov has reportedly spent the money on his own needs.
Criminal proceedings have been instituted against Mukhtorov and he faces up to twelve years in prison with confiscation of property.
Behrouz Mukhtorov is the first municipal official detained for corruption.
