Coronavirus in Tajikistan: The number of officially confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Tajikistan reaches 13,300

Asia-Plus

According to the data from the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Population (MoHSPP), 304 new officially confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) have been reported in Tajikistan since December 31, bringing a total number of the officially confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the country to 13,300 as of the evening of December 30.

The number of coronavirus-linked deaths remains the same in the country – 90, a MoHSPP says.

181 COVID-19 patients have reportedly discharged after recovery since December 31.  In all, 12,980 (95.8 percent) coronavirus patients have reportedly recovered in the country as of the morning of January 4, 2021.

The COVID-19 pandemic in Tajikistan is part of the worldwide pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2).  The virus was confirmed to have spread to Tajikistan when its index cases, in Dushanbe and Khujand, were confirmed on April 30, 2020.

Meanwhile, citizens and civil society organizations in social media websites have already been announcing their daily case count and enacting a variety of measures that were not being taken in Tajikistan. When they could not receive any official information, social activists created an informal COVID-19 patient statistics website.  The COVID-19 Death Reporting in Tajikistan website, www.kvtj.info, allowed individuals to self-report on COVID-19 patients, thus providing a running list that included both infection and death, as well as a list of external assistance for responding to COVID-19.  As of December 8, 2020, the site estimates the number of deaths as 446.

The virus is reportedly affecting 218 countries and territories around the world and two international conveyances.

Coronavirus cases around the globe have been reported at 85,505,217 since China reported its first cases to the World Health Organization (WHO) in December 2019, Worldometer said today morning (04:10 GMT).  Of them, 60,455,521 have recovered and 1,850,703 have died.

CNN says that according to the Center for Disease Control (CDC) the United States has administered more than 4 million vaccine doses, but is lagging behind some other countries as the number of cases continues to surge.

India has formally approved two COVID-19 vaccines for emergency use, one made by AstraZeneca and Oxford University and the other developed locally, according to CNN

Dozens of countries have reportedly banned travel from the UK to contain a new Covid-19 variant first reported in England.
