Five killed, one injured in Ayni traffic accident

Five persons were killed and one other injured on January 7 as a car fell off a 400-meter precipice, according to the Emergencies Committee under the Government of Tajikistan.

The accident reportedly took place in e afternoon near the Zimargh area in the Anzob jamoat of Ayni district, Sughd province.

The driver – a 62-year-old resident of Devashtich district – was speeding and lost control of his Opel and the car fell off a 400-meter precipice, Umeda Yusufi, a spokeswoman for the Emergencies Committee, told Asia-Plus in an interview.

As a result of the accident, the driver and his four passengers, including a 7-year-old girl, died on the spot, while another passenger – a 38-year-old man – sustained serious injuries and was taken to the Ayni central district hospital.

All of them are residents of Devashtich district.
