The annual inflation rate that was reported in Tajikistan last year is the highest one that was reported in the country over the past decade.

According to the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan, the year-end inflation in Tajikistan’s consumer goods sector last year stood at 9.4 percent.

The government last year planned to curb inflation rate at 7.0 percent.  Meanwhile, the World Bank predicts last year’s year-end inflation in Tajikistan at 10 percent.

In 2019, the year-end inflation in the country reportedly stood at 8.0 percent.

Meanwhile, the cost of products of the food industry last year reportedly increased in Tajikistan on average by 12 percent. 

The increase in cost of products of the food industry was reportedly caused by a 40.7-percent increase in prices for sugar, 19.8-percent percent rise in prices for potatoes, eggs – 18.9 percent, bakery products – 13.8 percent, and meat – 6.7 percent.  

In 2020, non-foodstuffs rose in cost on average 5.8 percent with the prices increasing most significantly for the following goods: detergents – 101 percent; building materials – 8.0 percent; pharmaceutical products – 7.8 percent; spare parts for transport – 6.6 percent; fabrics – 5.1 percent; and liquefied natural gas (LNG) – 4.2 percent.      

Prices and rates for services rendered to the population reportedly increased on average by 4.0 percent in 2020.  Prices for air ticket and rates for domestic services reportedly increased most significantly over the reporting period: 30 percent and 6.7 percent, respectively.
