In 2020, the foreign trade turnover of Tajikistan, including electric energy and natural gas, was estimated at about 4.6 billion U.S. dollars, which was 100.8 percent of the 2019 level or 34.1 million U.S. dollars more, according to the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan.
The trade balance last year was negative and amounted to 1.7 billion U.S. dollars
Exports of goods last year reportedly amounted to more than 1.4 billion U.S. dollars, which is nearly 20 percent more than in 2019.
In 2020, the country’s exports mainly included precious and semiprecious stones and precious metals. Last year, Tajikistan reportedly exported about 690 million U.S. dollars’ worth of precious metals and precious and semi-precious stones, which is 49 percent of the country’s exports in 2020.
Mineral resources, ores, cement and electricity reportedly accounted for 19.6 percent of Tajikistan’s exports, non-ferrous metals – 13.3 percent, fabrics and cotton fiber – 14 percent.
Imports of goods into the country in 2020 reportedly amounted to more than 3.4 billion U.S. dollars, which was 6.0 percent fewer than in 2019.
The main items of Tajikistan’s imports were oil products, products of chemical industry, wheat flour, food products, mineral products, etc.
In 2020, Tajikistan had trade relations with 110 countries, including ten CIS member nations.
Last year, major trading partners of Tajikistan were: Russia – 21.4 percent of Tajikistan’s foreign trade turnover; Kazakhstan – 20 percent; Switzerland – 15.3 percent; and China – 10.4 percent.
