Dushanbe-2 CHP plant directs generated electricity to the country’s power grid

Asia-Plus

The Dushanbe-2 combined heat and power (CHP) plant is Tajikistan’s largest  and the most equipped and modern thermal power plant.  A total cost of the project is reportedly 349 million U.S. and it was implemented due to a loan provided the Export-Import Bank of China.

The plant consists of two lines.

The first 50 MW unit of the first line of the Dusahnbe-2 CHP plant was introduced into operation in January 2014 and the second 50 MW unit of the first line was introduced into operation on September 13, 2014.

On September 13, 2014, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping inserted the time capsule into the foundation stone for construction of the second line of the Dushanbe-2 CHP plant.

Construction of the second line of the plant began in 2015 and it was introduced into operation on December 8, 2016.  The second line, which reportedly consists of two units with a total capacity of 300 MW and 270 gigacalories, increased the plant’s electricity generation capacity to 400 megawatts (MW).

The Dushanbe-2 CHP plant provides with heat Dushanbe’s Sino and ismoili Somoni districts and directs electricity to country’s power grid and from there electrical power is distributed throughout the country.

Last year, the Dushanbe-2 CHP plant reportedly generated nearly 1.4 billion kWh of electricity and 411,000 gigacalories of heat.

A total cost of the project is 349 million USD and it is being implemented due to a loan provided by the Export-Import Bank of China and 17.4 million USD provided by the Tajik government.

This coal-powered plant has been built in the Liuchow area of the Tajik capital.  Construction of the coal-powered plant was reportedly in compliance with Tajikistan’s environmental regulations.

The general contractor for construction of the Dushanbe-2 CHP plant was China’s TBEA

TBEA is one of the largest electrical manufacturing groups in China and the first floated stock company in Chinese A Shore Market in transmission industry of China after merging the former Hengyang Transformer Works (a large-size stated company founded in 1958 and located in Hunan province, China), and well-known for manufacturing all kinds of high voltage power transmission, transformation and distribution equipment. Under the administration of TBEA, there are 10 large backbone factories, 5 research institutes, 6 business entities and 8 participated enterprises.  TBEA products are exported to over 70 countries, including the U.S., Canada and Japan. TBEA is one of the main suppliers of electrical equipment to the world’s largest hydroelectric power station, the Three Gorges. TBEA’s shares are listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange.
