President explains what post-covid Tajikistan should be

President Emomali Rahmon yesterday held an enlarged session of the government to review the results of the past year's work and set tasks for this year.

According to the Tajik president’s official website, the session participants included members of the government, heads of all provinces, cities and districts as well as rectos of universities and heads of banks.   

Opening the session, Emomali Rahmon noted that 2020 was generally a good year for Tajikistan and its people and significant achievements were recorded in the life of the country.

Prime Minister Qohir Rasoulzoda reported on the results of socioeconomic development of the country in the past year.

He noted that despite the coronavirus pandemic the country’s gross domestic product (GDP) rose 4.5 percent in a year to December 31, 2020 reaching 82.5 billion somonis. 

Compared to 2019 the index of the volume of production of industrial goods reportedly amounted to 110.2 percent, and the volume of agricultural goods amounted to 108.8 percent.

The country’s exports last year reportedly rose 19.9 percent compared 2019.

The annual inflation rate for Tajikistan reportedly was 8.0% for the 12 months ended December 2020.

Meanwhile, the cost of products of the food industry last year reportedly increased in Tajikistan on average by 13 percent and non-foodstuffs last year rose in cost on average 5.8 percent.

Finance minister, tax chief officer and customs chief officer also reported on the results of work carried out in the past year.

They, in particular, noted that the revenue part of the last year’s budget was overfulfilled by 0.1 percent and 91 percent of the budget’s expenditure part was completed. 

Heads of other ministries and agencies as well as heads of cities and districts also reported on the results of work carried out in 2020.         

Speaking at the session, Emomali Rahmon instructed relevant ministries and agencies to take measures to attract investments in the economy, create new jobs and resume regular air traffics. 

Contrary to the forecasts of some experts, the session concluded without staff changes.
