The National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT) says that in Tajikistan, the number of E-wallets rose 4.9 times in a year to December 31, 2020, reaching 1.7 million.

10.7 million non-cash transactions in a total amount of 543.1 million somonis were reportedly carried out in the country by means of E-wallets.

Compared to 2019, the number of non-cash transactions carried out in the country by means of E-wallets last year increased 5.7 times, or by 8.8 million transactions.

A total volume of payment made last year by means of E-wallets amounted to 440.8 million somonis (5.3-fold increase compared to 2019), the regulator press center says.

The NBT says the issue of bank payment cards also increased significantly during the last year.  More than 3.2 million payment cards were reportedly issued last year, which is 30.8 percent more than in 2019.

As of December 31, 2020, there were 1,281 cash machines (ATM) and 5,710 electronic terminals in Tajikistan.

Compared to 2019, the number of ATMS increased by 403 and the number of electronic terminals increased by 362.

E-wallet is a type of electronic card which is used for transactions made online through a computer or a smartphone.  Its utility is same as a credit or debit card.  It is a type of pre-paid account in which a user can store his/her money for any future online transaction.

E-wallet has mainly two components, software and information. The software component stores personal information and provides security and encryption of the data.  The information component is a database of details provided by the user which includes their name, shipping address, payment method, amount to be paid, credit or debit card details, etc.
