Tajik police prevent a terrorist attack in Shahrinav, says interior minister

In a report released at a news conference in Dushanbe, Tajik Interior Minister Ramazon Rahimzoda revealed on February 19 that police last year prevented a terrorist act in Shahrinav district.

According to him, a resident of Shahrinav, who is a follower of Islamic State (IS) terror group, was detained last year for preparing a terrorist attack against police officers.

The minister refrained from giving further details of the case.  

Rahimzoda further noted that 271 supporters of terrorist and extremist organizations, including 147 supporters of Muslim Brotherhood, were detained in the country last year.  

2,071 persons have been wanted; 1,973 of them have been detained.  

He further noted that in 2020, there were 23,460 crimes reported Tajikistan, which is 1464 crime fewer than during 2019.  18,887 crimes were reportedly solved last year.     

Last year, the law enforcement authorities confiscated 54 assault rifles Kalashnikov, 138 carbines and rifles, 302 smooth-bore weapons, 65 pistols and other types of ammunition. 

In 2020, police reportedly detained 1,117 kilograms of narcotic drugs.  A totaled included more than 49.2 kilograms of heroin, 481.2 kilograms of raw opium, 502.2 kilograms of hashish, and almost 65 kilograms of cannabis.
