Moscow Vnukovo Airport experts flights on a number of air routes to resume in April or May.

The Head of the Vnukovo Airport Board of Directors, Vitaly Vantsev, noted this in an interview with TASS on March 3.

At the same time, he expressed the hope that, first of all, regular air traffic with Tajikistan and Uzbekistan will be resumed.

“We expect that after all, our partner – CIS member nations — will begin to reopen from April-May, and first of all, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan,” said Vantsev.  “The epidemiological situation there is much better than ours.  Our situation, as you know, is also stabilizing, so there is hope that these two markets will open up for us.  These are quite large, capacious markets.”

According to him, compared to 2020, the Vnukovo Airport can increase passenger traffic this year by 11-43 percent up to 14 million – 18 million passengers.  Last year, the Vnukovo Airport reputedly handled 12.56 million passengers.

Recalls, flights from and to Tajikistan were suspended on March 20, 2020 for the purpose of preventing the spreading of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) to the country.

The Russian Federation suspended air services with other countries on March 27, 2020.

Since late May last year, Tajikistan has organized a number of charter flights to repatriate its nationals who were unable to return home due to Covid19 crisis and closure of airports in both Tajikistan and the Russia.

Vnukovo International Airport is a dual-runway international airport located in Vnukovo District, 28 kilometers southwest of the center of Moscow, Russia.  It is one of the four major airports that serve Moscow, along with Moscow Domodedovo Airport, Sheremetyevo International Airport, and Zhukovsky International Airport.  In 2019, the airport handled 24.01 million passengers, representing an increase of 12% compared to the previous year.  It is the eleventh-busiest airport in Europe.
