Tajikistan seeks increase in financial support from ADB

Issues related to state and prospects of further expansion n of cooperation between Tajikistan and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) were discussed at a virtual meeting between the Minister of economic Development and Trade Zavqi Zavqizoda and newly appointed ADB New Country Director for Tajikistan, Ms. Shanny Campbell.

According to the press center of the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade (MoEDT), the two, in particular discussed the possibility of increasing volume of financial support provided by the ADB to Tajikistan for implementation of the Tajik government’s anti-crisis measures.  

It was reportedly about the support for the state budget and the financing of work on implementing the Tajikistan medium-term development program designed for 2021-2025, the digital economy medium-term development program for 2021-2025, and the national export development program designed for 2021-2025.  

At the conclusion of the meeting, the parties expressed readiness for further expansion of bilateral cooperation, the MoEDT press center said.

Tajikistan joined ADB in 1998. Over 23 years, ADB has become the largest multilateral development partner for Tajikistan by supporting a diverse range of sectors—from strategic road and energy infrastructure to food security and social services for a total of around US$2.2 billion of assistance.
