Tajikistan lifts practically all covid restrictions, except limits for weddings

Tajikistan has lifted practically all restrictions related to the novel coronavirus (COVID-15), except limits for weddings.  Meanwhile, some restaurants owners and wedding organizers consider that the Standing Committee on COVID-19 Response just forgot about it.

Recall, weddings were suspended in Tajikistan in April last year due to the coronavirus crisis.  As of 20 June 2020, a ban on weddings has been lifted, allowing organization of weddings by having only one ceremony (traditionally weddings foresee several ceremonies), with participation of maximum 30-40 people.  All the public facilities throughout the country, including major markets and shopping malls, beauty salons, sanatoriums and others closed due to COVID-19 re-opened on 15 June 2020.

A source within the Committee on Religious Affairs Ordering Traditions and Rituals under the Government of Tajikistan (CRA) says they have not yet received any document lifting the restriction on the number of wedding guests.

“This restriction can be lifted by the decision made by the Standing Committee on COVID-19 Response.  But so far, no such decision has been made,” the source added.

Meanwhile, it is to be noted that the Standing Committee on COVID-19 Response does not have address, office, telephone number, and press center.  It is only known that the Committee is led by Prime Minister Qohir Rasoulzoda
