Rahmon congratulates Kazakh president on his birthday

Tajik President Emomali Rahmon has congratulated his Kazakh counterpart Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on his birthday.  

According to the Tajik president’s official website, Emomali Rahmon held phone call with Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on May 17.  

Tajik leader congratulated Kazakh president on his birthday and highlighted many years of productive government activity of Kassym-Jomart Tokayev that won him great respect and well-deserved authority.

Rahmon reportedly noted Kazakh leader’s constant attention to the issues of strengthening Tajik-Kazakh relations of friendship and cooperation.  

During the phone conversations, Rahmon and Tokayev exchanged views on the agenda of the upcoming high-level negotiations that will take place in Dushanbe, the Tajik president’s official website says.

They reportedly expressed hope the upcoming official visit of Kazakh president to Tajikistan will contribute to further expansion of the bilateral cooperation between the two countries.  

It is expected that Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev will pay an official visit to Tajikistan from May 19-20 at the invitation of Tajik President Emomali Rahmon.  

Kassym-Jomart Kemeluly Tokayev (born May 17, 1953) is a Kazakh politician and diplomat.  He took office as the president of Kazakhstan on March 20, 2019, succeeding Nursultan Nazarbayev, who resigned on March 19, 2019 after 29 years in office.

Tokayev began his career in 1975 when he worked as diplomat in Singapore and China.  In 1992, he became the Deputy Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan where he took a position against nuclear disarmament in the former Soviet countries.  In March 1999, Tokayev became the Deputy Prime Minister.  In October 1999, with the endorsement of the Parliament, he was appointed as a Prime Minister by the presidential decree.  From 2002, Tokayev served as Foreign Minister where he continued to play an active role in the field of nuclear non-proliferation.  He then served as the Chair of the Senate of Kazakhstan from January 11, 2007 to April 15, 2011 and from October 16, 2013 to March 19, 2019 and was the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva from March 12, 2011 to October 16, 2013.
