Tajikistan and Russia launch simplified customs corridor in test mode

Asia-Plus

Within the framework of an agreement on organization of a simplified customs corridor between the customs agencies of Tajikistan and Russia, Tajikistan has begun supplying fruit and vegetable products to Russia through a “green corridor” in a test mode, according to Russia’s trade representative office in Dushanbe.

The project allows the companies of the two countries, under certain conditions, to obtain simplifications in the performance of customs operations with respect to certain categories of goods shipped between countries.  Currently, the project is extended to agricultural products.

“Currently, the project envisages movement of vegetables, fruits and products of their processing, as well as peanuts and some other food products,” Russia’s trade representation said in its statement.

An agreement on launching the simplified customs corridor was reportedly signed between the customs agencies of the two countries in April 2019.

The customs agencies of Tajikistan and Russia will exchange information about the goods being moved directly in electronic form, and the information obtained will be used in the work of national risk management systems that will allow reducing the time for carrying out customs operations.

Simplified Customs Corridor (SCC) will be applied to all types of transport.

According to data from the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan, a two-way trade between Tajikistan and Russia last year valued at 974 million U.S. dollars, with some 90 percent of the being Tajikistan’s imports from Russia.

In the export composition of the Russia Federation, food products and agricultural goods accounted for 30.2 percent, while in Tajikistan’s exports to Russia, food products and agricultural goods accounted for 13 percent.
